Brighton Fringe Festival 2024!

This is the first year I feel that I’ve really made the most of Brighton Fringe Festival. Working on two shows myself, Emotions In Motion at Brighton Unitarian Church, and Marvin and the Dodgyspinners at The Rotunda Theatre, meant that I was in Brighton for the whole of May! (Rather than working at Smallworld or Balter Festival – much love to all of you <3)

I got to check out some free comedy at The Windmill by two very funny ladies who I related to massively! I also saw ADHD Dad at The Caroline of Brunswick, which was also good fun.

I went to see Violet Vaudeville at The Walrus Basement, starring the awesome Sirona alongside other amazing Burlesque acts which elated my ‘Eva Marie Performer’ side. Being around other Burlesque performers encouraged me to focus on getting booked and boosted my confidence in that potential. Violet suggested I send a video of one of my burlesque acts over to her, so watch this space for the next collaboration!

Somehow I lost my phone playing in The Twine in Pavilion Gardens… Luckily I ran back to get it and it was on the grass in the middle of the twine!

The Sassy Show at Spiegeltent was absolutely epic, whether it was an official part of the Fringe festival or not, and represents everything the festival stands for. Big ups to India and Rhiannon from Marina Studios, you were amazing (as were all of the performers). It was such a great performance that I’m already planning to go next year. I’m so proud to be a working part of the Studio now and look forward to the amazing shows we can devise together.

The Hairy Godmothers in Disney Villains at Fool’s Paradise for my friend Mel’s birthday was spectacular and it’s lovely of the people who run the venue to offer discounts to Fringe performers. A toy dog was kicked out into the audience and I caught it! It made my experience even better as I was able to stroke its ears while watching. #AuDHD (I was sad to return it, but had to for their next show). The comedy aspect and production of this show inspired me to let my funny side out in my writing more often.

Lastly, I went with the lovely birthday girl Sascha to see The Highwaymen at The Snug in the 3 Jolly Butchers. What a lovely atmosphere and the storytelling was phenomenal, I even learnt more about English history in the 1600s. And as you might have guessed by now, I love learning about what has gone before and incorporating history in my writing. Or maybe I just love writing about time-travel!
